Who we are
Remi Learn (“Remi”, “we”, “us”) runs the Remi app and this website. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us about privacy at privacy@remi-learn.com.
This policy covers the Remi app for iPhone and Android, the website at remi-learn.com, our emails (including the launch newsletter), and our support channels.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address and password (we store only a secure hash of it, never the password itself), and your first and last name if you add them. When you verify your email or reset your password we send you a one-time code.
- Setup answers. When you start Remi we ask a few questions to tailor it to you: what you’re studying for, why you’re learning, your age, your interests, how many minutes a day you want to study, when you prefer to study, and whether you want reminders. We also save your time zone so your streak and daily battery follow your day.
- Your content. The files, photos, recordings, videos and links you add, and what you type, including your answers to quiz questions.
- Messages to us. When you contact support in the app or by email, we receive your message, your email address, its category and any attachment you include.
- Newsletter sign-ups. If you join the launch list on this website, we collect your email address, which phone you’ll use Remi on if you tell us, where on the site you signed up, and when you signed up and confirmed. See the newsletter section.
Information created when you use Remi
- Study material. The text, images and transcripts Remi extracts from your content, and what Remi writes from it: titles, summaries, key ideas, lessons, flashcards, questions and explanations.
- Learning activity. Your study sessions, answers and grades, flashcard review history and schedule, XP, levels, streaks, achievements, chests, your battery and spark use, and the notes and courses in your library.
- Purchases. Whether you have Remi Plus, your trial and renewal dates, the Shop items you buy, and store transaction identifiers. Payments are handled by Apple or Google; we never receive your card details.
- Device and app information. An installation identifier the app creates (used to keep a guest profile on one install), your push notification token if you allow notifications, your device type, operating system and app version, and the notifications we’ve sent you.
- Crash and performance reports. If the app crashes or something fails, it sends a diagnostic report (the error, the screen, device model, OS and app version) so we can fix it.
- Technical logs. Our servers record requests to our API and website, including IP addresses, for security and to keep the Service working.
Information from others
- App stores and our subscription provider tell us when you start, renew, cancel or get refunded for Remi Plus.
- Our ad provider tells us when you finish a rewarded ad, so we can give you your reward.
Device permissions
Remi asks for access to your camera, photos, files or microphone only when you choose to add something with them, and for notifications only if you turn on reminders. You can change these permissions in your phone’s settings at any time.
How we use your information
| Purpose | Information used | Legal basis (EEA, UK) | | --- | --- | --- | | Create and run your account, sign you in, keep it secure | Account details, device information, logs | Contract; legitimate interests in security | | Turn your material into lessons, cards and questions, grade answers, schedule reviews | Your content, study material, learning activity, setup answers | Contract | | Personalize Remi (subjects, daily goal, reminder times, recommendations) | Setup answers, learning activity | Contract; legitimate interests | | Send reminders and notifications you asked for | Push token, settings, learning activity | Consent (you can turn them off anytime) | | Process Remi Plus and rewards | Purchases, ad reward confirmations | Contract | | Show ads on the free plan | Device information and ad identifiers (via AdMob) | Consent where required; otherwise legitimate interests | | Answer your questions and fix problems | Messages, account details, crash reports | Contract; legitimate interests | | Improve Remi (for example, which question types work best) | Learning activity, crash reports, in aggregated or de-identified form where possible | Legitimate interests | | Send service emails (verification codes, password resets, trial reminders, important changes) | Email address | Contract; legal obligation | | Send the launch newsletter | Newsletter sign-up details | Consent | | Prevent abuse and comply with the law | All of the above as needed | Legal obligation; legitimate interests |
We don’t make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects. Remi’s automatic grading of quiz answers only affects your study plan inside the app.
How Remi uses AI
To build your lessons, Remi sends the relevant parts of your content to AI models: to read text and images, to transcribe audio and video, and to write summaries, cards, questions and feedback. We access these models through OpenRouter, which routes each request to a model provider. These providers process your content on our behalf to return a result to us. We send them only what a task needs, and we don’t sell your content or allow it to be used to advertise to you.
AI-generated content can be wrong. You can remove a question that looks wrong with the flag button, and tell us about it at support@remi-learn.com.
How we share information
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who run parts of Remi for us, under contracts that limit how they can use it:
| Provider | What they do | | --- | --- | | Neon | Hosts our database | | Cloudflare | Stores your uploaded files (R2) and serves this website | | Fly.io | Runs our servers | | OpenRouter and the AI model providers it routes to | Read, transcribe and write study content from your material | | Twilio SendGrid | Sends our emails | | Expo | Delivers push notifications and app updates | | RevenueCat | Manages Remi Plus subscriptions | | Apple and Google | App distribution, payments and push notification delivery | | Google AdMob | Shows ads on the free plan and verifies rewarded ads | | Sentry | Collects crash and error reports |
- For legal reasons, when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, the public or Remi.
- In a business transfer, if Remi is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
- With your direction, for example if you share something from Remi with a friend.
Ads
On the free plan, Remi shows ads from Google AdMob, rated suitable for general audiences. AdMob collects information from your device, such as your IP address, device and app information and, if you allow it, your device’s advertising identifier, to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure them and prevent fraud. Google’s use of this information is described in Google’s privacy policy.
- If you’re in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, Remi asks for your consent before ads are personalized, using Google’s consent tool. You can change your choice later.
- On iPhone, apps can only use your advertising identifier if you allow tracking. You can turn it off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- On Android, you can delete or reset your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads (or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on your phone).
- Remi Plus shows no ads.
Under some US state laws, letting an ad network use identifiers for personalized ads can count as “sharing” or “targeted advertising”. You can opt out using the settings above, or by contacting us.
How long we keep information
- Your account and content are kept while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, your content and your study history from our live systems right away, and your uploaded files are removed from storage. Our database provider keeps a short restore history so we can recover from mistakes; deleted data drops out of it within 30 days at most.
- Guest profiles that are never turned into an account are kept so you can pick up where you left off, and are deleted if they stay unused for a long period.
- Purchase records may be kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require. Apple, Google and RevenueCat keep their own records under their policies.
- Support messages are kept for as long as needed to help you and to improve our support, and deleted when no longer needed.
- Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days.
- Server logs are kept for a short period for security, usually no more than 30 days.
- Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only your email address and the dates you signed up, confirmed and unsubscribed, so we never email you again by mistake and can show you agreed. Ask us and we’ll delete those too. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted after 30 days.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete your information;
- export your information in a portable format;
- object to or restrict some uses of your information, including use based on legitimate interests;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it (for example, for notifications, personalized ads or the newsletter); and
- complain to your local data protection authority.
Many of these you can do yourself in the app: edit your profile and settings, turn off notifications, and delete your account under Profile → Settings → Delete my account. For anything else, email privacy@remi-learn.com from the address on your account. We may need to confirm it’s you before acting. We answer within one month (or within the time the law where you live requires), and we won’t treat you differently for exercising your rights.
US state privacy rights
If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you have the rights described above to know, access, correct, delete and port your personal information, and to opt out of the sale of personal information, “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising, and targeted advertising.
In the past 12 months we collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (such as email address, device identifiers and IP address); customer records (name, email); commercial information (subscription purchases); internet or other electronic network activity (app usage and learning activity); audio, electronic and visual information (recordings and photos you choose to add); inferences (your study preferences); and sensitive personal information limited to your account login credentials, which we use only to provide the Service. We collect them from the sources and for the purposes described above, and disclose them to the service providers listed above.
We do not sell personal information. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. You can use an authorized agent to make a request; we will ask for proof of their authority. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.
Children and teenagers
Remi is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact privacy@remi-learn.com and we will delete it.
Teenagers can use Remi with the permission of a parent or guardian where the law requires it. In the EEA and the UK, the age at which a young person can consent to some processing (such as personalized ads) on their own varies by country; where Remi relies on consent and the user is under that age, a parent or guardian must give or authorize it.
International transfers
Remi is run from the United States, where our servers and database are located. If you use Remi from another country, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States and in other countries where our providers operate. Where the law requires it, we protect these transfers with safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit (HTTPS), passwords stored with a strong one-way hash (Argon2), private file storage with short-lived access links, sign-in protection against password guessing, and limited access for our team. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password. Read more on our Security page.
Newsletter
When you join the launch list on this website, we store your email address, which phone you’ll use Remi on (if you tell us), the part of the site where you signed up, and when you signed up and confirmed. We use this only to tell you when Remi launches and, occasionally, to share news about Remi.
We use double opt-in: we email you a link, and you’re only added once you click it. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also write to privacy@remi-learn.com. To stop the form being misused, we briefly check how many sign-ups come from the same network; we don’t store your IP address with your sign-up. The emails are sent by Twilio SendGrid on our behalf. Signing up for the newsletter doesn’t create a Remi account.
This website
This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and it doesn’t track you across other sites. It saves two preferences in your browser’s local storage (your light or dark theme, and whether demo sounds are on), which never leave your device. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes your IP address and basic request information to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. See our Cookie Policy.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as Remi changes. If we make significant changes, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
